Of the approximately 40 species of snakes in Alabama, only six are venomous. It is important to be able to identify poisonous snakes versus non-venomous and endangered varieties, especially for forest workers who are likely to encounter them. This publication identifies the differences between venomous and non-venomous snakes and lists their common habitats and prey. Several pictures are also included and the publication is also available in Spanish.
