There are three native species of penaeid shrimp in the Gulf Coast region, vital to both the food shrimp industry and the recreational/sport fishing industry. Technical and economic factors limit live shrimp hauling capability to about 6 hours and many variables can result in an unreliable supply. This publication is an overview of efficient and economical bait shrimp harvesting techniques, some based on established practices in the food shrimp industry.
